Online safety still isn't written into every curriculum or policy, despite the internet being the place where young people learn, create, build friendships, and discover who they are.
Cyberlite was established in 2021 to help build a collective movement, with governments, industry partners, and civil society organisations to make quality online safety education accessible to every child, not a privilege for some. That is the generation we are helping to raise: confident, critical, and genuinely independent online.

Our Founding Story
Cyberlite began in 2021, founded in Singapore by Michelle Yao and Nina Bual. They had seen the same problem repeat across Asia Pacific: children were growing up digitally connected and facing rising online harms, yet the education meant to keep them safe was scarce, boring, or written for somewhere else entirely. So they set out to build something different: online safety education that was localised, engaging, and made for Asia Pacific.
It began with a single workbook, Ready, Get Set, Connect!, created to teach children the essentials of cyber safety, which reached 10,000 learners in its first year.
Within two years the Internet Independent Framework was published, leading to a full curriculum and a suite of learning programmes used in more than 16 countries.
In 2024, Cyberlite became the proud recipient of the Digital for Life Catalyst award, presented by Singapore's Minister Josephine Teo, for our ongoing efforts in cyber wellness education.
By 2025, we opened a second office in Bangalore, India to serve the South Asian region.
In 2026, we received the prestigious Digital for Life Champion award, presented by Singapore's President Shanmugaratnam for our significant contributions to online safety education.
Today our work reaches over 725,000 students, teachers, and parents across 21 countries, in more than twelve languages, trusted by schools, governments, and industry partners across the world. What began as a shared vision between Nina and Michelle is now a dynamic body of work, anchored by a single belief: every child deserves to be internet independent.

Meet Our Co-Founders
Michelle Yao
CO-FOUNDER | SINGAPORE
Michelle Yao is the Singapore-based co-founder of Cyberlite, where she leads Cyberlite’s education strategy, scalable architecture, and innovation. At the heart of her work is a commitment to designing experiences that are not only pedagogically sound, but also visually engaging, culturally responsive, and globally aligned.

Michelle is a UK-SEA Women in Cyber Fellow, a regional fellowship supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for her leadership in cyber education and her commitment to inclusive digital futures. She regularly contributes to global policy dialogues and international conversations on AI literacy and digital wellbeing.
Nina Bual
CO-FOUNDER | INDIA
Nina Bual is the India-based co-founder of Cyberlite, where she leads strategic growth and key partnerships across Asia-Pacific. She specialises in building long-term partnerships with governments, international organisations, and school networks, ensuring that Cyberlite’s education programmes are scalable, locally adapted, and grounded in trust.

A recognised voice on responsible AI and child online safety, Nina is a regular speaker at leading international forums, including Singapore International Cyber Week and the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise, where she advocates for safer digital spaces for the next generation.
