The Partnership
Generative AI has entered family life whether parents are ready or not. Children are using AI tools for homework; algorithms shape what families see online; and parents are navigating questions they never anticipated—often without any formal guidance on how these tools actually work.
Singapore’s Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), through the Families for Life movement, recognised an opportunity: rather than framing AI purely as a risk to manage, what if parents could be equipped to use these tools constructively? We partnered with MSF to design and deliver a programme that would give parents practical AI skills they could apply immediately — not in the abstract, but in the context of everyday parenting challenges.
A Curriculum Grounded in Real Parenting Needs
We designed a custom programme that started with AI fundamentals: how generative AI works, what it can and can't do, and how to interact with it effectively. The focus wasn't on making parents AI experts; it was on showing them how AI could become a useful tool in their parenting toolkit.
Scenarios included using AI to get advice on managing screen time, brainstorming solutions to common parenting dilemmas, and evaluating the quality of AI-generated responses. Each example was chosen because it reflects real situations parents encounter based on survey data.
Weekend Workshops
We delivered in-person workshops for parents on weekends, designed around the reality that young families have limited time and competing demands. Sessions were interactive and hands-on, giving parents the opportunity to try AI tools themselves in a supported environment rather than just hearing about them.
Take-Home Resources
To extend the learning beyond the workshop, we created a custom infographic resource that parents could download and reference. This provided a quick-reference guide to the concepts and techniques covered, making it easy to apply what they'd learned in daily life.
Alignment with National Priorities
This programme was designed to complement Singapore's broader national initiatives on digital readiness and family support.
