Cyberlite and Microsoft are hosting virtual co-design sessions to open the doors for youths ages 13+ to participate in shaping the future of AI education.

In this 90-minute workshop, youths will get the chance to share perspectives and opinions with us, which will directly impact how thousands of teens, teachers, and parents learn about AI friendships and companions.

These fascinating innovations are driven by the power of generative AI, a new technology that took the world by storm in 2023. Generative AI has not just captured imaginations but also sparked important conversations about its potential and implications. As we step into a world increasingly shaped by generative AI, it becomes crucial to understand and embrace these tools safely and responsibly.

“Create a unique character and demonstrate how they use generative AI tools safely and responsibly in their everyday life, whether it's in their hobbies, profession, or daily routines.”

In this exciting challenge, we invite you to unleash your creativity by writing a story of your one-of-a-kind character. How does generative AI transform hobbies, careers, or even everyday tasks? What is their key learning moment that makes them re-think how they should be using these tools more responsibly? Your story should not only introduce us to an intriguing character but also explore the responsible and safe use of generative AI technology.

Classroom Toolkit: Unlocking Generative AI Safely and Responsibly

Join Gina and Alex on a journey through the world of generative AI in this Classroom Toolkit. The characters from this toolkit will inspire you with their innovative use of generative AI tools in their work. Learn from Gina and Alex’s experiences and apply these insights as you craft your unique character for the challenge, embodying the principles of safe and responsible AI use.

Students will be guided through the toolkit in the student workshop. Teachers are encouraged to download the PowerPoint Presentation as well to understand how to teach generative AI safely and responsibly. This will help with understanding the requirements of the challenge submission.

A Note for Teachers: We encourage educators to integrate the toolkit into classroom discussions. It's a valuable resource for exploring generative AI tools and their applications while emphasising the critical understanding that AI, while useful, is not infallible.

Helpful Hints

In your challenge submission, be sure to include the lessons learned from the toolkit and have your character demonstrate good practices. This might include:

Fact-checking outputs generated by AI tools
Understanding why fabrications occur and how to combat it
Addressing bias in AI
Protecting your online privacy
Balancing the need for speed with security
Balancing and maintaining a healthy mental wellbeing when using generative AI tools

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to enter the challenge:

You must currently be residing in Singapore.
You must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a local Secondary School, Integrated Programme (IP) School, International School, or Independent School.
You must be a Secondary 1-3 student or equivalent (ages 13-15).
Your submission must be accompanied by a completed parent/guardian consent form (click to download).

Submissions that do not meet the eligibility criteria will be not be accepted.

Please ensure you adhere to your school’s approved guidelines and AI policy.
AI tools often have age restrictions and terms of service. For example, OpenAI mandates users be over 13, and those under 18 need parental consent to use their services.
Generative AI tools may occasionally produce inaccurate content, thus it is important to verify the accuracy of information generated.

Submission Guidelines

Your submission should include these key requirements:

Character Creation: Develop a character that is unique and appropriate, and does not infringe on any copyrights.
AI Integration: Explain how your character uses generative AI in their profession, hobbies, or daily routines.
Ethical Consideration: Clearly demonstrate safe and responsible practices in your character’s use of AI tools.

Optional: Visual aids such as drawings, diagrams, graphics, etc to complement your character’s description

How to Submit:

Submissions must be sent through the Submissions page, along with a signed parent/guardian consent form . No entries will be accepted by email.

Deadline:

All submissions must be received by 23:59, 24 May 2024.

Judging Criteria

Clear considerations for safe and responsible AI use (40%)
Demonstrated a realistic understanding of generative AI’s applications and implications (30%)
Creativity and originality (30%)

Announcements & Prize Presentation Ceremony

Finalists will be notified if they have been shortlisted in June 2024 and receive an invitation to attend the Prize Presentation Ceremony. Those who do not make the shortlist will not be informed.

Winners will be announced at the Prize Presentation Ceremony (details will be shared in the email).

Participants are encouraged to utilise generative AI tools to assist in the creation of their characters and stories. It is essential to properly cite any such tools used during the creative process. In your submission, please clearly indicate the name of each AI tool employed and describe its specific role in developing your story (e.g., idea generation, narrative enhancement). This requirement for transparency is crucial in helping us comprehend your creative approach and ensures appropriate acknowledgment of the tool creators.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

Remember, the essence of the competition is to showcase your creativity and how you envision the use of generative AI.

Q: How do I submit my entry?

Q: Is there a deadline for the competition?

A: Yes, the submission deadline is 24 May 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.

Q: Can I work in a team, or does it have to be an individual project?

A: This is an individual competition. We encourage each participant to submit their own unique creation.

Q: What are the judging criteria for the competition?
