Safer Internet Day 2026: Standing Up to Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying isn't always obvious. It's the group chat that goes quiet when someone joins. The memes shared without consent. The confession page made to target a classmate. The pile-on in a gaming server room.
Join INTERPOL and Cyberlite this Safer Internet Day 2026 as we move beyond textbook definitions to explore how cyberbullying actually plays out, and what students can do about it.
What we'll cover:
How cyberbullying really happens, from exclusion from group chats to public cancellations on Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Discord, and gaming platforms
Why it's harder to recognise than we think and why good people sometimes end up participating
Recognising when to help a friend in need: research shows peer responses shape whether bullying escalates or stops, yet most young people feel unsure about when and how to step in
Practical upstander skills that can shift group dynamics, and how to support someone privately, and when to involve adults
Students will leave with tools for responding to cyberbullying — whether they're experiencing it, witnessing it, or realising they've contributed to it.
